Peace Experiment Results

Well, it turns out I can't see peace as I go through my day. I don't know what it  looks like.

If it is the absence of war or fighting, then it's all around me. Is that what world peace would be? People doing their daily work and interacting uneventfully?  Is peace just the absence of war?

While focusing on seeing peace, I became aware that there were times when I felt peaceful - a quiet calm. I wonder if this is not closer to the core of peace: feeling peaceful vs. feeling agitated, worried, etc. 

So, I think today I will focus my attention differently and see what happens.

Here is Peace Experiment Two:

Why can't I see right through you?

"Physicists have discovered that the apparent solidity of matter is an illusion...this includes the physical body...99.9% of which is actually empty space...a microcosmic version of outer space.

To give you an idea of how vast the space is between celestial bodies, consider this:
Light traveling at a constant speed of 186,000 miles (300,000 kilometers) per second takes over one second to travel between the earth and the moon; light from the sun takes about eight minutes to reach the earth. Light from our nearest neighbor in space, a star call Proxima Centauri...travels for 4.5 years before it reaches the earth...Light from the galaxy closest to our own, the Andromeda Galaxy, takes 2.4 million years to reach us. Isn't is amazing that your body is just a spacious as the universe?"

What does it mean that that we're essentially space appearing solid? What other illusions do we live with, fight over and even die for? What if we started being a bit more curious and less certain about what appears to be obvious to us? Awesome!

Is There Something Beyond Leadership?

Would we know a different way if we saw one?  Something besides leadership?

Our neural associations regarding leaders (the ones hardwired into our brains) are strong. They come not only from our own experience but from the media and the culture we live in. The belief that nothing good happens without a leader sets us up to attribute all good things to leaders. 

Our belief that leaders make things happen leaves us wishing for better leaders. We sort people as to whether they are leaders or not leaders. “Not leaders” are discarded into the “wait until you are told what to do.” pile while we focus on making the leaders, well “better leaders.” 

Distinctions

They say naming something gives you power over it.

A rose by any other name is still a rose. But calling all other flowers “roses” doesn't make them so.

There’s power in seeing differences; being able to use what you see.

A poisonous mushroom from a button, a morel, a crimari. One warbler from another as they migrate south. A good bacterium from a harmful one.

Being able to guide your boat by the stars.  Read a face for cues to meaning.  Recognize an investment when you see one.

Distinctions bring power, joy, even money. They build a skilled life.

So look carefully. Your ability to see matters.

Seeing everything through the lens of leadership prevents us from identifying what else might be going on. If you could relax your focus and bring into view the research that indicates what we focus on influences what happens e.g., the global consciousness research, how might it change your expectations or the way you organize? 

“Leading” is based on a Newtonian view of the world that assumes influence only goes one way. In contrast, “co-creating” is based on relationships, reflecting our quantum inter-connection and the mutual influence we actually have on each other and the results we get. What if we entered into more conversations, e.g., dialogue, to explore what was really important to us all.

Distinctions allow us to see differently. It is only with new eyes that we can have access to new actions and ultimately different results.
