I would imagine if you are reading this you are familiar with, if not a believer in, the idea that our thoughts and emotions directly impact our world. Not only are they precursors to the action we take, they change the physical world around us, impact our bodies and influence what we attract into our lives. Visioning, choice, and defining the end-results we want, along with the emotions they generate, are critical components of mastering this new understanding.
As I listen to those focused on our newly elected President
there is often a disconnect (I campaigned/or not, I did/didn’t vote for him!) That is the extent to which some see their involvement in the results we have today.
I’d like to suggest that because the world we live in is a reflection of what collectively we hold (beliefs, fears, resistance) and where we are collectively at an energetic level, there is a deeper level of wonder and questioning that can show us how we are co-creating what is happening.
Short Story: During the election I was talking with someone I care a lot about. She mentioned she was voting for the McCain/Palen ticket. When I asked why she said she was a values voter and McCain/Palen opposed abortion and gay marriage. I felt my frustration level rise (OK I lost it) and I asked “what about people being tortured, innocent people dying in wars, the destruction of our climate and environment, the failing global economy....... (you get the drift)” She just said, “there are X numbers of babies killed every year.”
I stopped and realized there was no where to go with this. We changed the subject.
As I reflected on this situation, I was appalled that she could ignore the multitude of problems facing our country and focus on one...with a solution that probably won’t work because prohibition never has.
Then I got it. My anger/frustration was as strong and as emotionally charged as hers was.
Energetically it was the same and this was how I help create what I don’t want in the world: the intolerance, the pitting of “my” truth against “yours,” and the pushing of others away because it is too hard and at times too scary to include them.
I realized that the best way I can support our new President is to pay attention to myself; to notice when I get scared or angry; when I make fun of or dehumanize the “opposition,” or look to “him” to solve all the problems, forgetting I am a creator as well.
These next four years are an opportunity to: 1) develop and stay focused on a shared vision of what our country and world can be, 2) be open to new possibilities for action and 3) include those we tend to push away when looking for solutions. It is an opportunity for each of us to “take it to another level.” I look forward it.
